THE MONASTERY OF ST. JOACHIM OSOGOVSKI 
On the slopes of the Osogovo Mountains, near Kriva Palanka, the well-preserved monastery, dedicated to the Macedonian hermit St Joachim Osogovski, is located. The present day monastery complex, consists of two monastery churches (a small one with remnants from the XIV century, and a bigger cathedral church dating from the XIX century), old restored lodgings houses, residential buildings of more recent dating, economic buildings with barns and alike, as well as, a number of accessory building for the requirements of the monastery people.  In the XI century, during the life of St Joachim Osogovski, there had been a monastery on the place of the present churches. However, no remnants have been preserved from it. This monastery is well known in the literature as well as in the folk tradition as a Sarandopor monastery, according to the area where it is built, a name that means forty dales. The monastery was founded by Joachim the migrant monk, disciple of the Ivan Rilski who livd in the XI/XII century.    The hagiography of Joachim Orogovskki indicates tha, during the time of the Byzantium emperor Manoilus Comnenus (1143-1180) a clergyman named Teophan from Ovce Pole, upon entering the monastery, order, had founded this monastery and as its first prior had build a church to St Joachim Osogovski, and afte the JKoachim's death hr had buried his relicts.  The church has very large dimensions, it had 12 domes and open porches on the western and southern side, and ranks among the most distinguished cathedral churches in Macedonia. A portrait of the saint Joachim stands painted by the zogrpah Papradiski, on the western wall of the church above the grave of the saint. The iconostasis includes wood carved Royal Doors.
